Hi, I’m Carmela.

I am a DEI consultant with a background in outdoor education, outdoor retail, and cross-cultural communication. I am a first-generation Filipina-American from Keystone, CO, of the Ute tribal lands.

In my years as a DEI educator, I have navigated tough conversations and understood timely feedback. When giving feedback, I speak candidly and focus on results over criticism. With my expertise in early childhood education, my DEI pieces of training are gamified to connect challenging concepts through play. Also, as a former market researcher, I emphasize high-quality data and strategizing from the data.

I run Not Mad, Just Misunderstood; a DEI training consultancy and podcast. I also run BIPOC Outdoors Networking, a community for BIPOC to network and support each other in the outdoor industry. By focusing on cross-cultural communication, I not only educate the majority, but also empower the underrepresented.
